"Sleep paralysis is a feeling of being conscious but unable to move. It occurs when a person passes between stages of wakefulness and sleep. During these transitions, you may be unable to move or speak for a few seconds up to a few minutes. Some people may also feel pressure or a sense of choking."- Web MD [14]

Sleep Paralysis generally happens during the REM (rapid-eye-movement) stage of sleep. This is during the point when you are generally dreaming.

Around 4 out of every 10 people suffer from sleep paralysis.

During my own survey I tried to gauge how many people knew what sleep paralysis was. Only 16 people answered and 15 of them knew what sleep paralysis was. That left a single person that did not know. This could either be that sleep paralysis is more well known than I originally thought or there could be a bias considering this was mostly Facebook friends whom responded to the survey.

This question gave individuals several options to what they thought the cause of sleep paralysis may be. Looking back it would be nice if it had included a section for them to add their own answers. Eight individuals believed it was something that just occurred while several others did agree with some of the more bizarre picks.
